Evidently Kentucky is beginning the process of banning Lasix but it is still not even approved yet...oy vey. From The Paulick Report, "On Monday, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission voted to approve the partial Lasix phase-out proposal advanced by its Equine Drug Research Council, reports drf.com. The plan calls for the elimination of race day furosemide in all 2-year-old races in the state in 2020, and extends the ban to all stakes races in 2021.
Horses affected by the ban will be allowed to receive Lasix up to 24 hours ahead of post time, and they will be required to be on the racetrack grounds no later than 24 hours in advance of their race. Those not affected will continue to be allowed to ship in on the day of the race, and may opt to have Lasix administered by a KHRC veterinarian.
The proposal will now move to the Kentucky governor's office for approval. Governor-elect Andy Beshear will be given the option to approve it immediately under emergency regulation rules or to use the standard legislative review process, which may take as long as five to eight months."
