Animal cruelty is now a felony. What can be more cruel then profiting or not, off of a racehorse forcing it to run on possibly unsafe racetracks, with a human life on it's back and whipping it to force it to go speeds at which it may feel reckless and unsafe especially on sloppy wet racetracks. Then when inevitable hurt, to just turn around pull up a curtain and euthanize it? What if it lives and just finished 8 lengths behind the winner, and you no longer want to pay the $350 plus a month to feed and board it, so you dump it at auction or simply sell it to the meat man where either way it ends up on a hot truck to Mexico with no water and brutally murdered.
