40 feet and breaking both his arms, (later having a miraculous recovery), the mall is PACKED This year with Christmas shoppers...of course there were other malls they could go to like the one in St. Cloud the shopping mall that had a stabbing at a Macy's that was shut down by an off duty police officer inside the Macy's. These attacks weighed heavy on my heart, as I walked through the mall this year. How did we get here? https://www.twincities.com/2017/09/16/year-later-officer-who-fatally-shot-st-cloud-mall-attacker-speaks-out/
How did we go from the 1980's when Dayton Hudson (owned by the family of former Governor Mark Dayton) owned the Minneapolis Dayton's store, that had tunnels underneath connecting it to bars in Uptown, and former mansions in the area-who also had the GRANDEST Christmas display, so grand it took up the ENTIRE 8th level of the department stores and children would go on Field Trips and take the day off of school just to experience the amazing plays, and themes set up full of lights, along the lines of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, it was a GRAND TRADITION, that served up exquisite Christmas cookies and sold Santa Bears and ornaments, there were endless Christmas ornaments, trees, and memorabilia to buy and treasure for a lifetime. Holiday memories were made there, some of my friends have collected over 20 Santa Bears each from a different year, that they treasure to this day.
The incredible irony is not lost on me, that it was Mark Dayton HIMSELF who ended this tradition. He changed this from a Christmas city, full of Christian people to an open religion society when he freely told everyone in St. Cloud that if they did not like the new Muslim refugees that now have taken over that city, if they did not like it they "should find another state." He never mentioned how much in tax payer dollars this would cost or the potential for lost children in the malls or stabbings at the malls that had previously never seen this level of violence. He never mentioned he would be closing his family business and ending our Christmas tradition either. But he did. https://theminnesotasun.com/2019/07/24/flashback-mark-dayton-tells-minnesotans-to-find-another-state-if-they-arent-happy/
Looking back it looks like Governor Mark Dayton was the Grinch who Stole Christmas...
